Life amongst Comedians

Life is full of people who, for some reason or another, like to bring down the atmosphere in the room.  These people love to take down the happiness you worked so hard for.  You also have the people that love to argue and raise nine kinds of cain with you.  No matter if they are right or wrong they will have you climbing to the sixth floor of the crazy house yourself.  Then you have the happy no lucky people.  These people are oblivious to the conflicts around them and refuse to see the anything but the good in everything.  Then you have the comedians.  I include myself in this category.  I am not saying that I am part of some perfect set of humans, because we are far from perfection.  Comedians see the good and the bad, the sad and the happy of every story.  We have the ability to make you smile when your crying, can make you roll on the floor in the middle of a rant, but deep down we are tortured.  Grief ridden and heart broken this is where we find our power to laugh.  We take turmoil and acknowledge it for the seriousness that it is but then we make you laugh it off so you don’t have to think about all the bleakness in our world 24/7.  Now I am no comedian in the sense that I get paid or am the funniest person you’ve met.  I listen to you, I get pulled into your life through your words.  I feel your pain; I cry with you; I yell into a pillow with you; I exclaim obscenities into the sky with you.  But at the end I find the humor in it and make you smile.  That one smile might not seem too important to you but I can see it in your eyes.  Your soul lifts and you feel better.  That one smile means so much to us.  Means more than anything to see your smile.  Writing this right now I am actually tearing up thinking about making somebody smile.  Our curse though is that we rarely find our own happiness within us.  I just move from person to person, smile to smile and keep on trucking.  So next time you see one of us, feel better because a laugh is just a conversation away.
